CUPE BC Super Con | Jun 9-11

Save the date for the CUPE BC Super Convention happening June 9th to 11th at the Nanaimo Convention Centre, including an evening reception on opening night and an informal social to close off proceedings.

 

Day of Mourning | Apr 28

The National Day of Mourning is held annually on April 28 and commemorates workers killed and injured on the job. As a reminder, CUPE has resources available to locals that can be ordered to mark this and other days, many of which are free. CoDev | International Solidarity Conference | Feb 28

CoDevelopment Canada warmly invites you to join us for the 7th International Solidarity Conference, a gathering of union leaders, IS and Education committees, and members, who believe that international solidarity can be a path for social transformation. See event poster here.

For Youth Initiative | Black History Month Required Reading

To celebrate Black History Month, a reading list of diverse and essential Black Canadian texts has been curated by For Youth Initiative, with former CUPE BC Convention keynote speaker Desmond Cole also featured.

 

CLC | Environmental Racism Campaign

Canada’s first ever National Strategy on Environmental Racism and Environmental justice is currently being developed to be tabled this year. Add your message here to the Minister of Environment, Climate Change and Nature, taking a stand this Black History Month to correct longstanding harms against Black, Indigenous and racialized communities. Read more historical context here from the 2023 Canadian Human Rights Commission report on environmental racism in Canada.

 

Metro Vancouver Alliance | Civic Academy Series | Feb 25 & Mar 14

Registration is now open for a free 2-part in person workshop by Metro Vancouver Alliance, discussing housing precarity, environmental justice, and the policies that shape them.

VDLC | IWD Dinner | Mar 8

Tickets are still available for the Vancouver & District Labour Council International Women’s Day Dinner on the theme of Women Organizing Communities, including panelists Diana Perez of UFCW Local 1518, Shirley Ram of the BCGEU, Monivoi Vataiki from USW District 3 and Reyna Villasin, Labour & Community Organizer. Proceeds from the dinner & draw will go to funding scholarships and future educational events for women in the labour movement.

FNHA | Dadzi Wellness Centre

The First Nations Health Authority has announced the new modern First Nations Primary Care Centre opening soon to serve First Nations communities in and around Fort St. James in northern BC. It has been renovated from a former educational facility into a health care space that is deeply rooted in Dakelh culture and traditions. Moose Hide Campaign Day | May 14

Registration is open for Moose Hide Campaign Day, when communities come together to create safety and end gender-based violence.

 

 

Federal Gov | Retirement Hub

The Canadian government has designed the Retirement Hub, a digital resource to make retirement planning easier for Canadians, with recent updates including fraud prevention tips, GIS information and more. Access here.

Applications are now open for this year’s Canadian Internet Registration Authority Net Good Grants, begun to support communities, projects and policies that make Canada’s internet better for everyone.
